Man… I remember when Newegg didn't suck. Those were the days.
When was that? I remember the whole Gamer's Nexus thing but none of that is new or surprising. They've been doing that shit for 20+ years.
Growing up in the 90s, you'd get the technology section of the newspaper and scan the ads for deals. The places that posted these ads were in run down strip malls or industrial parks. It was always a sketchy affair and if you ever had an issue, you lost money on the transaction. Some were better than others (e.g. Monarch Computer) but none were great.
When eCommerce took off in the early 2000s you could have that same sketchy experience except now, instead of arguing with a man behind a glass window, you could do it over phone or email. That was Newegg.
That has always been Newegg's vibe. You either get a deal, or if there's a problem you'll lose money. Whether it's on shipping, restocking fee, or fake damage, you always lose when there's a return. That's how Amazon became king.
