The Greenworks should be much more powerful since it is 40v platform instead of the Craftsman's 20v

Anyone have experience with this model? Mainly wondering how heavy it is? I have the 80v greenworks and love it, but looking for something for my almost 80 year old dad and the 80v will be to heavy for him. Also my 80v eats through the batteries pretty quick and I have 4.0Ah and this with only 1 battery thats 2.0Ah I don't see realistically how you could use trimmer and blower in 1 session.

I just need a trimmer. I have loads of 18V Ryobi batteries. Would it better to just get an 18V Ryboi trimmer or go with a 40V like this Greenworks? We just moved to a new house with a tiny yard and really don't want to use the gas trimmer for probably about 15-20 mins tops of trimming.

Either choice is fine. This is a better deal price because it includes the blower and is slightly higher quality, but you can spend less money with Ryobi if all you need is a trimmer that can get the job done. I looked it up and it's less than I thought, $70 for a 13 in. trimmer if you don't need a battery with it.

390 CFM is less and should go for higher CFM.

Is the trimmer brushless motor. If it is brushed, performance is terrible.

edit: this is not brushless motor. so cheap o brushed motor that will have carbon deposit in no time. get a kobalt brushless for about same price.

I purchased this set the last time it came up on sale. So this is my opinion on both. I was excited to get a 40v trimmer and blower for such a good price. The blower is kind of light to medium duty it gets the job done of blowing grass clippings, dry leaves, maybe you can even dry your car with it, just don't expect a heavy duty blower let's say you have wet leaves it will not do the job. The advantage of the 40v is that it lasts even with the 2.0 ah that comes with it , I do 2 lawns, and I use it maybe 20 minutes or more. The trimmer is what I was excited about. My gas trimmer was such a pain with the gas and oil mixture. Sometimes, it needed cleaning. I felt it was such a hassle. The 40v trimmer was nice when I got it. The line was already in it and ready to go. It was very powerful. I would say as good as my gas one or even better. It's lightweight, and the battery lasted thru use. That was the pros the cons it's has a horrible trigger that atleast in my unit,would get stuck and not engage you have to find the right spot by pressing it many times till it starts that was a pain. The other problem is that the trimmer head, greenworks claims that the trimmer head automatically advances, not the case it works until there is no longer line. You have to open the head and restring it. I wish I could return it just for that problem or find a head that would fit it. That's a bump style head. I never had a problem with those. It's a shame it has those quirks. Otherwise, would have been a solid set.

The line automatically advances on mine. As it says in the manual, the line advances a fraction of an inch every time you pull the trigger, so you can pull it a few times if necessary to advance it more.

I bought this trimmer specifically because the bump-feed trimmer head on my Greenworks 60V is so terrible. It's stiff and hard to rotate it to feed the new line in without scraping the hell out of your hands, and after a couple of years the head was so worn down you can't reload it with trimmer line at all. I had to get a whole new trimmer head, and now that one's showing some wear, the whole design is a mess.

This 40V trimmer can't chop through thick weeds as well as the 60V but it gets the job done, and it's so much easier to refill with line compared to the bump head.
