I looked all over for info on this model (MAW08S1DWWT), and don't see any mention of it being a DC compressor ("inverter technology") anywhere. That's really what the other models of Midea window units are known for (and thusly their awesome efficiency). Also, it's $249 direct from Midea....so I don't see this as too hot of a deal. Not trying to thread-crap....just sharing my $0.015
edit: I should also mention (for a positive note) that this DOES have remote monitoring and control from your phone via the app....so it is a nice step up from a "regular" brandX window AC unit.
yea i just ordered this Hisense from Costco.com for $220. 8000 btu as well. Smart inverter type, pseudo u style

Sam's has an 8K BTU Inverter unit (not the U Shaped one) for $250.
For the same price they also have a 12K one too.
Oh yea, I forgot about the Hisense inverter at Costco!

all the midea U shaped inverter models have just been recalled. you cant buy one anywhere, walmart amazon and home depot pulled them from the shelves, issues with mold growing inside.

The Midea U-shaped inverter, 12,000 BTU, is currently for sale (and on sale for $299) at Costco.
There's no reason to get a Midea window AC without an inverter compressor, because that's what they're known for now, and what contributes to the lower noise and greater efficiency. Inverter compressors can operate at variable power, instead of simply fully on or off with a traditional compressor.
It wasn't out of stock when I posted that. But there does seem to be something to the concern about mold growth in the U-shaped Midea a/c (and about them being pulled, very recently): https://www.reddit.com/r/Costco/c...ac_pulled/

It's "out of stock" on Costco dot com - so is it really for sale ?

Call them cause I did, they are recalled. Anyone can do a quick search and see it is still for sale but they are on a stop and recall
