Great basses with terrible quality control. The control cavity is unshielded. I saw one with inclusions in the paint. I saw one some scratches from the factory. Most of them don't have frets finished very well. But, the pickups are amazing. The neck is amazing. If you get a good one, you'll be super pleased. Fender Mexico just has terrible quality control these days.

This is true. Bought both the 4 and 5 string on recent sales, quality control is awful. However the fixes aren't expensive or hard imo. A $10 set of sanding pads to smooth off the fret ends, $10 of copper tape to shield the control cavity, and added a ground wire from the bridge to the cavity/pots. Maybe spent 30 mins doing all that on each bass. If you have to pay someone to do that work for you then it's probably not worth buying these basses.

Mine had no issues with paint. So I might've lucked out there.

Agreed. I got one of these basses in white and it was pretty rough. I also recently bought a Fender Meteora (also from Fender Mexico) and the first one was so bad it was shameful and I had to return it. The replacement was fine though.

I'm old enough to know a guitar described as "San Dimas" should be a Steinberger.
