For occasional use and lighter projects, this kit is fantastic. I have it at work for when we do small projects in our machine shop.

If you're looking for something to use more frequently, I would go with one of the other major brands, dewalt, Milwaukee, makita all make more robust tools...if you like home depot, I might even suggest rigid but don't have personal experience with anything other than their shop vacs which are really hard to beat for the price. Of the ones I've listed above, I personally run dewalt and think they are really good for the price. If I were to do it again, I might go Milwaukee as they are trying to put a battery on every possible thing on the planet and they're much better at yard tools than dewalt.

This set would be similar to the Ryobi 6-tool combo at Home Depot. Either of these would be good for the home user. Forget Milwaukee, Dewalt, Makita, Bosch, and some other brands. Nothing wrong with those but the price is going to be double or more. A DIY home user is not going to wear out these tools. Most people buy tools because they have a project they are working on. Once the project is finished the tools sit idle for months and months; and even longer than that.

Lol I did the same thing. I got the circular saw and oscillating multi tool free - but then saw the circular saw combo, and they allowed me to swap out the circular saw for the 3" multi cutting tool, so I though the circular saw kit!

I have these in a machine shop setting. They are 3 years old and still going strong. Not top of the line obviously, but not pieces of crap. Company buys milwaukee but that stuff always dissapears. It's just easier to go grab my stuff when needed.

If you want to step down, there's this 6-tool package for for $130. IMHO, the Craftsman and Kobalt are better deals. But posting this here for comparison. It's a different set of six tools and only one battery and a 1.5 amp at that (Craftsman is 2A, Kobalt 4A). Perhaps useful if you want to do very little DIY.

They're all junk anymore IMO. I work for a company which uses Milwaukee and while most of their tools are decent, their cordless drills are trash. I see them burn up all the time. I don't have any of that stuff for home use because they were about a decade late to the scene with their lithium ion cordless power tools so I have Makita. The first m18 drill/impact combo I got from them back in like 2007 or 2008 is still going strong. Even had to replace the brushes in the drill on the kit I've had it so long. But most of the brushless Makita junk I've purchased since is in a landfill now. And that's with light occasional home use (kept indoors, never dropped, never got wet, etc etc). One of the biggest dissapointments was a brushless grinder which died outside of warranty, but had very low mileage on it. There's too many electronics in these newer style tools and they're not serviceable. That Kobalt kit someone linked here is very very tempting to me even though I have a ton of Makita batteries. Thing is, I need another cordless grinder, would like a multi-tool, and that SDS hammerdrill looks very tempting. Buying those 3 things in Makita alone would cost me $400. Not sure if it's worth it honestly. Gawd I wish that Kobalt kit had at least 2 batteries though.

What circular saw deal are you guys talking about? Isn't that link for a 4Ah/2Ah/case/charger plus free tool deal? Also, for the free tool, wouldn't it be wiser to grab a more expensive tool such as this [lowes.com] one?

Edit: Looks like you guys are talking about this deal [lowes.com] with a 6.5" saw, 4 Ah battery, and a charger for $79. How are you guys swapping out the saw in that deal. Not seeing that.

Just know that these 20V MAX Craftsman doe snot work with their older 20 MAX Craftsman Batteries / system. This "new" redesign made the system incompatible to their older tools (which were interchangeable with Black+ Decker) .

I am JUST searching for a toolkit for workplace (we are not a mechanical company, but sometimes there is a picture to be hung, you know...). Almost pulled trigger on Ryobi's 6-tool kit for $200 and "buy one and pick one free" which I selected a charger with 2 batteries plus a grinder for $80, but saw a post on Dewalt set for $500, which turns out to be a regular price. The 6-tool kit has 2 or 3 tools I do not care about (driver, light, oscillating tool), wish the drill had hammer function, but still a good deal for 200 bucks, or some 300 for pretty much entire set and accessories (bits, blades) of basic tools.
This Craftsman set is missing a larger (4Ah or so) battery for me.
Regarding Kobalt - not a big fan of Lowes, beyond which Kobalt practically does not exist, plus a weird 24V platform they are trying to differentiate.

I'm not a fan of mixing up brands; once you invest in one ecosytem, stick with that. This is from experience, but it gets frustrating with the batteries (which don't last forever BTW). I haven't looked much into this Craftsman brand, but if they're anything like Ryobi, they may have different grades of drills/impacts. Nothing about this brand seems too appealing to me though. But was looking at the cobalt products and they seem pretty good, at least on paper. I'm heavily invested into makita but I'm thinking of switching things up to another brand just because I've had a few tools and a few batteries give up the ghost lately and the replacements are insanely expensive. Plus never got a higher torque impact gun (the one I have in Makita is a smallish ~250ft-lb one) and also always wanted a multi-tool and a portable band saw and desperately need another grinder. Don't even want to think about how much those 4 things cost in Makitia LOL. I was thinking I could sell off what I have, make enough off of that and still replace everything with Kobalt products and end up ahead.

Edit: Also would love having a cordless SDS which is fairly cheap in the Kobalt family and/or can be a free tool with their bundles.

That's pretty much how I ended up with two brands. Most of my battery powered tools are Makita LTX, drivers, drills, sanders, router. But when I needed those one off tools like a reciprocating and multi tool I found that sticking with Makita would allow me to get one tools and switching to a diy brand for those would get me all of them, some batteries and then some. Currently have Craftsman for my "junk tools" but would have gone one step like kobalt or rigid up if I had to get them again. The batteries for craftsman go pretty cheap on a regular basis so I lucked out getting multiple 4amps at $39 each.
Edit: craftsman v20 gets sold in the rest of the world as Stanley FatMax v20 if it's any help getting a good idea of what the tools are like.

Maybe it's a string of bad luck, but I've just had a Makita sub compact impact die of me the other day (1/4" driver style one) and wasn't doing anything heavy duty with it, it just started smoking. Had a grinder die on me this summer and believe me, even though it was around 4 years old, it really didn't see much use and was kept indoors. There was something else I had die on me but can't think of what it was off the top of my head but their older brushed tools from 10 years+ ago were way more durable. Had a few of their batteries crap out on me and stopped taking a charge too. Left a sour bad in my mouth because the replacements are so damn expensive. Used to come across some clearance deals in Home Depot on Makita power tools and ocassional bundles on sale also, but don't see those any longer (I grabbed those bundles a couple of times and sold off the tools I didn't need and kept the batteries - made out like a bandit). I may do that with that Kobalt deal mentioned before, buy 2 x $250 kits and get practically everything I need with the free tools extras and just dump the stuff I don't need on ebay or something. If there's no market for them like there is for Makita tool only sales, then just throw them in the shed and keep them as spares.
