This is a pressure cooker not regular cooker. Regular rice cooker would just boil the water and cook it. Pressure rice cooker will pressurize it and cook more efficient. It usually shorten the cooking times and make rice more sticky, while keeping the rice texture good... It's probably hard to tell for the people that eat rice occasionally, but as a Korean who eat rice every single meal, this makes big difference. If I compare it... it's like soggy cereal in a flooded milk vs. Crunch cereal that you just put right amount of milk just abt 2 seconds ago.
I mainly cook basmati, and it comes out much more fragrant with no sticking whatsoever. Also, the cooked rice fluffs easier/better, keeping the extra long grains intact. With my Instant Pot, I had no choice but to break up the rice when stirring at the end of the cycle. The texture is perfect with the rice cooker every time, hit-and-miss with my Instant Pot. It keeps the rice fresh much longer on warm and is easier to clean. I just rinse the pot and lid with water, no scrubbing or soap needed. It's actually less stressful to make rice because I know it's going to be great.
I can't attest to whether the expensive rice cookers are worth it, but I take people at their word that they are. Other than the lack of a steam catcher on mine (pretty annoying and the first time I've seen that on a dedicated rice cooker) I'm very happy with my cheapo Cuckoo.

thats a interesting experienced based account..
ive seen ut viddeos comparing rc with ip and im led to believe they are interchangeable for rice finished product.
ive owned neither ones but i have eaten some rice from other peeps' rc.
i am curious if rc does better than ip for quinoa, if anyone knows.
