Powdered peanut butter is not a cost effective alternative to regular peanut butter, and mixing it with water does not produce the same result as real peanut butter. This is a sale and it's still almost $6/lb. You can buy natural peanut butter (ingredients: peanuts and salt) for half of that.

Just like this, DIY powdered peanut butter has benefits as being easier to mix into other products such as shakes, baked goods, sauces, or even sprinkled like a topping. It is also technically more shelf stable via reduction of moisture.

Sidebar: The fat in peanut butter is healthy, monounsaturated fat, and helps you feel full longer. Unless you need to cut calories, there's no reason to skip that oil.

For anyone who gets their standard PB much cheaper per lb, you can make PB powder by combining PB with tapioca starch in a blender/food processor.

I thought getting PB in powder form was supposed to be more cost effective, and then you mix it with water to create regular PB

Are you saying you get regular PB cheaper, then make your own powder? But...why?

No, the point/upside of this product is not cost-effectiveness. It's the 'health' aspect/lower calories than standard/regular PB.

I'm assuming maybe to blend for smoothies. Or easily transportable to make a pre-workout shake or similar.

Yeah that too but that doesn't explain why anyone would buy regular PB and make their own powder.

That method might cheaper than buying powder (as regular PB is usually cheaper/oz than these powders). Just like making your own jerky, etc.

Maybe but now you're not getting the health benefits because you're making it from regular PB.

You 100% are getting the health benefits if your own powder mix skips the added sugar that gets thrown into this product.

Or because you want to get PB flavor and just not eat more calories than you really have to. Healthy is a subjective term, and PB2 is just a healthier choice by being fewer calories strictly from oils. Why can't I choose to get my monounsaturated fats elsewhere?

I love when people who gatekeep my eating choices are also just repeating outdated narratives like "who cares what else you are eating? We all need more good fats!"

I'll throw this PB2 in my greens smoothie and you go ahead and eat your "healthy" fats

I hope you say this often, and in every peanut butter post. I'll keep it ready and expose this with peanut butter posts I find.

As with anything you eat and especially if it's made by a big food company (I dare say) Read that label…. Real peanut butter is generally good for you but much of the mass produced stuff has sugar and vegetable oil added…..

https://www.webmd.com/diet/peanut...d-for-youl
"The final product contains a range of nutrients that may offer health-boosting benefits. However, it's important to check the label when buying peanut butter. Many brands today add ingredients like sugar, vegetable oil, and trans fats that can reduce its nutritional value.

Natural peanut butter is available in health food stores and specialty grocers and can be easily found online. Look for a product that contains no additives other than a little salt."

I'm not sure why you're taking my statements personal, like I'm somehow gatekeeping your eating choices. If anything it sounds like there's some kind of gatekeeping enjoying regular peanut butter as if it's unhealthy and we must find alternatives that are "more healthy" simply by having less fat.

If you want to talk about outdated narratives, the "fat makes you fat/fat is bad for you" myth has been promoted since the 1950s. Along with the idea that having less calories makes something healthier be default, which is also not a blanketed fact across the board.

Enjoy your PB2. No one is stopping nor judging you. For people who just want powdered peanut butter and aren't focused on cutting calories, there's cheap alternatives (this is slickdeals after all).
