Since the monitor would go dark with an unsupported refresh rate (60 didn't work) I would have to remote control in with a streamer like Splashtop and mess with the refresh rates to get the signal to come back.
The fact that he can plug in with one cable and get his laptop charging, acceptable monitor resolution, and keyboard/mouse makes this seem well worth the price.. higher refresh would be nice but again this could be related to his funky monoprice monitor..
