I'm so glad I got the warning from the above posters. I will die if the tortillas that were deep fried in oil and topped with red meat happens to be garnished with salsa that isn't the absolute freshest, made from organic avocados and tomatillos harvested that very morning.

I didn't think that the thrust of the previous comment is that it's unhealthy per se. The criticism is that the salsa is mostly filler rather than actual flavor ingredients.

Contrast that with the Taqueria salsa in the same post where the 1st ingredient is tomatillo and the 3rd ingredient is avocado.

Water is the first ingredient and soybean oil is the 3rd ingredient. It also contains canola oil. Do you want some salsa with your oil?

To be fair, all salsa is mostly "filler" without the flavoring ingredients. Tomatillos are about 92% water. Tomatoes are about 95% water. Whether tomatillos or water is the first ingredient primarily has to do with how runny a salsa is. In either case, "water" will always be the primary ingredient.

As for adding oil, it makes a salsa creamier. If you want a runnier or chunkier salsa, you can leave out oil, but otherwise, if you're looking for a creamy salsa, it's best to add some form of oil. Avocado can work as this, but other oils/fats can be more shelf stable and less expensive and used to supplement avocado, for example.

Writing all this, some of the other posted salsas have fewer and "cleaner" ingredients. They might or might not taste better. They might not be any more healthy. They are, however, different types of salsa than the guacamole one. Again, guacamole contains a lot of fat/oil, which makes it a different (creamier, for one) style of salsa.

If I'm not mistaken, and it's been a few days, but I believe I saw this at Costco (Houston Willowbrook) for $2.97.

This stuff is more of a guacamole sauce than a green salsa. Definitely tasty, but quite different than you might be expecting.

Water isn't a filler the same as food coloring, oils, preservatives and other ingredients lol. Water doesn't hurt anybody but those other ingredients could

Awesome. Here's another food product you can blissfully dismiss people's concerns about: https://youtube.com/shorts/R4-0m2...HN50xOBi-e

I know it was a bit high level, but I actually didn't dismiss anyone's concerns about what is in their food product.

I used sarcasm to denote that being concerned about the oil content that's in the sauce you drizzle on your already-unhealthy meal full of oil and fats, is kind of like supersizing your combo meal but insisting on having a diet coke because you're concerned about calories.

Exactly. The hypocrisy is hilarious.
