Tekken has always done this but in the form of time released characters in the 90s arcades so it's not new.
This game came out in January and only 1 character (Eddy Gordo) has been released with many more to come.
This game is FANTASTIC and you should not wait as the online play is good right now.
There were some much needed buffs early on and the gameplay has been stabilizing but otherwise great fighting game.
My main (Lei) has not been released or even announced yet but I'm having a blast playing and learning the new characters.

If I was a businessman and I found out I get more money by doing dlc, bc customers go with that, I would make it the business to slowly release characters. What they should do, like movies, is release a mini documentary so we can understand more clearly how much more investment they put in to make the game. I still prefer a final product, final price methodology. DLC is a version of subscription. I don't have an extreme nature against dlc I simply can't tell these days if they are purposely withholding characters or not. The R&D assist the gfx creation, the graphics are better due to technological advancement of hardware and software development functions or engines. It is a matter of computing power on our console or PC. There is the truth and there is exaggeration of the truth, so while statements are made how much harder it is, I think it's based on some level of truth to it. But if one does the math on dlc, the actions and the pricing scheme are a mismatch. It's predatory.
