Use Case: Two computers, one old Lenovo work laptop run through Thunderbolt Dock. New high end custom water cooled 4080 super gaming PC. I wanted to be able to set it up so that I could have the monitor showing two work laptop screens at work, one laptop and one personal PC screen, and one large personal only screen. I also wanted to be able to switch between these easily.
Setup: HDMI 2.0 from PC 4080 Super to HDMI 2 Monitor, DP 1.6 from Laptop Dock to DP 2.1 Monitor, HDMI 1.6 Laptop Dock to Monitor. UGREEN USB switch attached to all dual use components (webcam, mouse, keyboard, etc). Speakers and headphones plugged into the monitor.
Pros: Does exactly what I want to do with ease. Switching takes approximately 3 seconds to switch between any of the configuration. Productivity soared while also being able to work on personal matters while waiting for reports to load at work.
Cons: There No HDR in PBP, the monitor takes like 6 seconds to turn on before you can access PBP mode, so do yourself a favor switch to your work input the night before so you can just log on instead of inconveniencing yourself 6 minutes (first world problems).
Overall impression: I absolutely love it, I was extremely scared I wouldn't it looks fantastic, t
Important Note: Nvidia GPUs don't have DP 2.1 so other than the Radon 7900XTX nothing can drive the full resolution of this monitor and that card is under powered compared to the 4090 and even the 4080 Super so it can't really make full use of the 240hz refresh rate @ max resolution anyway. I didn't include this in the cons list because this is an Nvidia problem, not a Samsung problem.
There is hope on the horizon with this issue though, the new 50xx series expected to release Q4 2024 or Q1 2025 is expected to have at least one, maybe two HDMI 2.1 outputs.
For a little performance context, I can run Helldivers 2 at max settings at 7,680 x 2,160 and achieve about 65-70FPS with my 4080S. If I drop that down to 5K UW I exceed 100FPS.
I added it to my cart and chatted with customer support and asked them for a $100 discount code, which they provided. I was able to check out for $1478.91 total including tax. I selected pickup at Best Buy. CB site saved me 3%.
I am pairing this with the Alienware R16 4090 deal from two weeks ago to play iRacing.
