This was one of the reviews. This is not a dewalt powerstack battery and it just came in a plastic bag inside the box, no idea if it is new or not
They work great on dyson vacuums with adapter. A lot cheaper than replacing the dyson battery.
Lowest ever on Amazon was $90 and average is $190.

This is from a third party seller, so buyer beware, but you can buy sold and shipped by Amazon for $102.

Can you give examples of using a dewalt battery for non-dewalt uses? Are you referring to use with other brand power tools, using those battery adapters? Or something else entirely?
All of the above. I chose Dewalt for experimentation because I have access to individual cells through all the pins, and before this they had no DRM like Ryobi or Milwaukee. I have some brands of tools that I have few or no batteries for, so I use adapters to Dewalt. I regularly use a Dewalt battery to power a soldering iron (similar to pinecil, but I forgot ne name of it). I have a DC-DC lab power supply (Riden RK6006) that I run exclusively from a dewalt 60V battery, giving me greater range and power than most lab power supplies in a smaller more portable package. I've charged Dewalt (and Greenworks) batteries from solar panels. Many older laptops with 20VDC adapters can be powered directly from a 20V tool battery, but I'm using power delivery from the official Dewalt adapter for modern computers.

I've had two DeWalt 5amp power stacks fail on me within 48hrs. First the LED indicator stops working and then refuse to charge. Keep an eye on them and register them as it seems to be a common issue

Heck even some Dewalt tools don't work well with this tool- certain Dewalt vacs among others- I love the 1.7Ah powerstack, been super disappointed with the 5ah version.

"You keep using that word...I think that word doesn't mean what you think it means..."

The PS 5a has an output management circuit, that works in conjunction with their battery management controller to not fry the BMC & subsequently the older tools.

Of the 2 PS batteries, it is only preventing overcurrent on the 5a model, the 1.7 does not behave this way.

Some vendors are updating their products to work with the 5ah. Specifically I've had dms with Mellif on reddit when 1st posting about the PS5 incompatibilities. They are working on it w their next gen products.

I can confirm 4 products of theirs I own, help gun, blower, hot melt gun & solder pencil, all work fine with the 1.7ah. Ditto for my Dyson V6 stick vac with adapter. The 5ah, no.

Now those using the PS w hopes of driving 24 , 27.5 & up tools, will have to wait until those adapter makers reverse engineer their buck convertor circuits to work with current protected outputs of the PS5ah.

Or you can go 18v Milwaukee forge & wait even longer.

Summation: the 1.7 will drive most existing adapters & devices; you need to look for new adapters or wait for manufacturers to upgrade their electronics to be PS5 compatible.
Same experience. The 5AH do not play well with adapters. Kind of a bummer.

Brands aside, usually do top brand batteries inherently perform better than their equivalents from lower-priced brands like Ryobi HP, Ridgid Max Output, ect?
Top brands usually advertise their product closer to the true specs compared to some unknown Chinese brand that put exaggerated, impossible to meet specs. So for Dewalt 5AH, should 5AH when you test it. I cannot comment on Ryobi or Ridgid though.

Beware of fake batteries. If it's too good to be true.....
Watch this video about fake Milwaukee batteries on amazon. It's probably more prevalent than you think.

Does your 5ah work on max suction? I found that I get a red light and it stops with the smaller batteries (2ah) after a second but works continuously with my flex volt 9ah.

Not sure why anyone would use an expensive powerstack with an adapter. I use the ryobi 6ah/4ah on dyson. I know the ryobi design makes it bulkier, but I have plenty of them. Ryobi batt have bms in battery, so adapter-use is safer. The 6ah/4ah run dyson v8 on max (2ah doesnt). I do like the tiny PS a lot. Appreciate info that 5ah PS is not adapter-friendly. I think the 5ah XR is a better shape for adapter use anyway, while being much cheaper

Thanks for the info, I'm not too familiar with all the different Dewalt battery variations. To answer why anyone would use one - it's because that's what I have sitting around already. I'll have to research compatibility a bit more now I guess.

Only certain Dyson vacuums, not all or even many of them unfortunately.

Mine does; though a couple of my older batteries, which still give me 20+ minutes in my blower and trimmer, only go for about 5 minutes before the Dyson starts to wig out. My newer 5 AH batteries (not PowerStack) work fine for 20-25 minutes, which is better than the original Dyson battery gave me.

The 2 AH batteries don't have the juice to get more than a few seconds of run time, unfortunately.
