The description says the batteries are Alkaline, but the pictures show Eveready Super Heavy Duty batteries which are the cheaper Carbon Zinc type.

There's a user video included at the top of the product page (second panel after the product photo). Granted that it is probably with fresh batteries, but it looks to me like it is giving off a good amount of light.
