Sometimes you need to take your scale with you to weigh herbs on the go

Perfect timing. My 10+ year old OXO finally had its LCD die (though you can still read it if I press two fingers across the display!). This one seems even better for more precise baking with its decimals rather than fractions. Thanks, OP!

Can someone explain why most kitchen scales use batteries as opposed to being plugged in ?

Portability. So you can take it out the drawer and put it away

Having built in batteries would drive up the cost by a bit. No one can justify a built in battery for a food scale that's 50 bucks and does the same as a 3 battery scale

Batteries last near forever. It would almost be a waste of an outlet to keep one dedicated to a scale.

It can depend on the scale. My heavier scale tends to eat batteries so I need to take them out after every use which isn't ideal. I also have some smaller electronic measuring devices (angle gauge, digital calipers, etc) that seem to do the same thing to their hard-to-find button cells.

This one goes up to 11 pounds on the big scale which is a decent range for a general-purpose scale. Good for baking too with the additional small scale. Wonder how it'll hold up over the long run. My current glass-top one looks nice but the sensor seems to wander a bit.

A tip ... If you ever use large bowls that obscure the display... simply first place a bowl, colander, large empty vegetable can etc... on the scale first... tare it... now place the bowl holding the ingredients on top... you can now easily see the display...

Half. The difference would be half.

I use a cheaper scale for coffee: Only 0.1g of precision. Accuracy also kinda questionable: If I lift the container and place it back on the scale, its second value will be off by about a gram at most. (For my cheapo scale, not this kitchen aid one to be clear).
