Both Amazon & Garmin have the Edge 530 and 830 for $50 off, so $250 for the 530 and $350 for the 830. Probably not the lowest price ever, but a nice drop for reputable purchases. Garmin says save $50 so it's probably not a permanent change.

This paltry $50 off just doesn't cut it now. They would need to include accessories, such as the mountainbike kit.

Hopefully this means a new version is finally coming out soon. These are 3 year old units at this point. Nothing wrong with them, but long overdue for an update. $50 bucks off at this point is weak sauce.

agreed; I bought a used 520 Plus for $100 (with accessories) and to me that was worth it... The only plus side is garmin seems to support their devices for a long time, so unlike phones or smart watches, it won't be obsolete in a couple years.

you want to look cool right? Nothing says dork than a full sized phone mounted on handlebars. LMAO
umm see a lot of people do this. think having a full on bicycling computer is on par for dorkiness as full on lycra.

why would I get this if the Strava apps can be used on the phone? Would it show the speed without the extra sensors?
šŸ™„ this comes up literally every time there is a deal on a bike computer. Try reading through some of the old threads. Main reasons are saving phone battery and you don't have to worry about dinging your phone if you come off your bike.

I have an old Samsung S7 and it works great. Running Strava on airplane mode, then hook it up to Wi-Fi at home to sync. My actual phone is in my pocket for calls, I use the old phone as a bike computer

Thanks. Wanted to justify spending on this or just using a spare phone with data and the strava appl. with a bike mount.

It does look cool and sleek, but so does my wallet by not spending on a extra computer. Happy riding!

If you want data, just tether to your phone (if you have tethering). No need to add that old phone to your plan

then the Garmin 530 and 830 is not for you. These are high end bike computers tailored for serious cyclists want to save 6.8 seconds on a 40k TT.

A bike computer will also keep you from damaging your phone camera sensors. The vibrations from having your phone directly mounted on the handlebar can affect the OIS and gyroscope. So better safe than sorry is my thought process.

As someone who just got a nice bike I was wondering if I needed this? I have an iPhone and an Apple Watch which in theory should be able to do this job just fine. With regards to mounting the phone you really don't have to since the Apple Watch handles workout info and give directions on the watch screen. I kind of want one regardless, just curious if it's necessary though if you have all the other things?

Aren't we all on TMO with the free phones? At least I am šŸ˜‚. Spare android with komoot and Jeepster (bike computer). There's also other apps that works well.
