I found only a few minor complaints with this stuff- 1. you can't really clean the toilet with a scrub brush until the majority (or all) of the gel has worn off, otherwise your brush gets filled with sticky gel and it's not fun to clean off. 2. you have to be clever about placement so that you can't actually see it in the bowl- it's not very visually appealing to your guests. 3. If your toilet actually doesn't get Enough use, it's ineffective and you'll still get rings, plus the gel will get hard and stuck on so bad that you can't clean it off. You obviously need the flushing action to have water go over the cleaner and actually clean the bowl.

They always stick for me, but I throughly clean the toilet and wait for the surface to dry then stick the gel. Works perfectly.
Also, when they start to lose their effectiveness, I take a screwdriver or something and put a couple of channels in them to expose fresh gel. Makes them last longer.
They work fine. I've been using them for the past few years off and on. Guess you are not smarter than a monkey.
