I think you're mistaking a high opinion of himself for the fact that he's literally the greatest single authority on myth and comparative religion studies. He literally wrote all the most influential and best-researched books on this subject, and "The Hero's Journey" (i.e. Monomyth) is the gold standard for understanding narrative structure.
As an English teacher, I found "The Hero with a Thousand Faces" to be one of the most essential works on both literature and the human condition ever written.

Just my opinion though.

Hate to be overly harsh but I've read this book three times over a ten year period and it's…. Awful. The prose sucks, it's boring, and the author has a very high opinion of his own opinion.

Ever do any research on Joseph Campbell. Maybe your not cut out for the history of religeon or philosophy and shouldnt be thread crapping because you dont understand it.

Sheesh! This person gave their opinion and were polite about it. They didn't just say it's sucked, they said WHY it sucked and that's what we're here to discuss. Chill.

No because people like this are going to deter others from expanding their minds and world views for a a mere $2 or free at their local library. This isnt a book, tv, or movie review site anf shouldnt be treated as such. If the seller isnt reputable, thats a different story.

I just got the audiobook of this for free from my local library. I'm sure they had the ebook as well. Borrowing either is super easy, especially with Overdrive

Remember to patronize your local library!

I'm not sure it's understood that this is essentially a transcript of the Power of Myth interview with Bill Moyers. So it's not meant to be written prose. The content of the subject matter is what's important and it's wonderfully insightful in my opinion.

Quality of product is a factor in worthiness of a deal, however. Not everyone has to like the same things, nor do they want to expand their minds.

With that said, I will use my Google Rewards funds to buy it and put it on my never-ending virtual bookshelf for some day when I retire Smilie

Anyone here like Star Wars? George Lucas was a huge fan of Campbell's, then they became friends. Lucas often credited the influence of Campbell's The Hero With a Thousand Faces on his filmmaking.

In fact, the interviews in this book took place at the newly-completed Skywalker Ranch, and Lucas was a big part of getting Moyers and Campbell together.

And he was 100% wrong. Why would he read it 3 times if the prose sucked and it was boring?
