You should buy them as needed, don't buy them to store them. Grinding and cutting wheels have a limited shelf life.

"Cut-off wheels and grinding wheels should not be used past their expiration dates, and that's if they've been properly stored and handled. Mishandling or storing discs in certain conditions might lead discs to be discarded earlier.

So what happens after cut-off and grinding wheels expire? I can't speak about performance, but there is a greater risk of breakage, shattering, or other such catastrophic failure."

Angle grinders are dangerous enough without throwing questionable discs in them.

Thanks OP. In for one of each. Why? No idea. Might need in the next 30 years I suppose…

In the first link what's the difference between the one listed at 1.78 and the aluminum oxide "option" at 1.49?

I keep getting tricked into buying these when on Amazon. Lol. I now have so many, could cut and grind through Mjolnir .

Fyi: these were $1.29 not long ago, and hover around this private a lot. It's the same with cut-off discs and flap wheels. so if they're not "on sale " give it a week

The pic of the wheel on my phone was so zoomed in that I thought it was a weird square grinding wheel with rounded corners. Had to tap just to see what it would be used for. Slightly saddened to see a pic of a normal grinding wheel.

You should use a diamond cup wheel for that.

Vitrified wheels, fired at 2000 plus degrees do not expire. Resin bonded wheels DO EXPIRE, throw them away at 2 years

I don't doubt any of that, but try finding the guy actually doing it. Ain't no "born on" date, no one's gonna date the wheel like a loaf of bread "Best by _____" when they get it home, and I'll bet a ball and a half that Home Depot and Lowes are chock full of resin bonded wheels older than my grammy's nipples. Thanks for the education tho (seriously). Can't wait to say "vitrified" to the cashier at the Dollar Store. I'm still stocking up a bit and yes, warning heeded: "You'll grind your eye out" to the tune of "Christmas Story".

I'm far from an expert on abrasives....weekend warrior DIY-er, but from what I've seen...the issue is with use, wear or degradation from environment....I'm not really sure how they go bad purely with age....could you elaborate on this point please?
