According to the only study I have ever seen that tried to determine the optimal dosage, 1/3 mg is more effective than the higher dosage. My personal experience agrees with this. Try taking less and it might work better.
Jealous of whoever only needs 1mg of melatonin 🤣

The body naturally only produces around 300mcg (micrograms). 1mg should be enough.

I've been using the Nature's Bounty Dual Spectrum 5mg from Target ($5.99 for 60) and I've had the least side effects of any brand of melatonin I've tried. I'd prefer not to continue using melatonin long-term but I would recommend this brand.

I use 10mg every night, 1mg isn't gonna do much for anyone after a while.

I do think you build up a resistance after a while and need more after time. I think sublingual ones works the best yet I too have increased my dosages higher and higher. For some nights I'm at 20 mg and I've gone as high as 50 mg but I've been taking melatonin for a long time.

Most careful science shows that <3mg is appropriate, and probably <1mg. It's a "natural supplement" which means that due to lobbying in the 90's, they can throw whatever dosage they want in the jar, short of a whole human pineal gland. Just because there's 10mg or 100mg or 1lb on the shelf doesn't mean it's good for you.

It works best for people with delayed circadian clocks, but if you have insomnia where you can't stay asleep, it may not give you much help. Megadosing it can cause side effects the next day since it's still in your blood.

6'2 220 lb dude who takes a third or half of one of these when I need help. I don't know how much y'all are taking this where you need 5-10mg dam laugh out loud

My only gripe with melatonin is unless its extended release, it usually causes you to wake up after 4-5 hours.

The only difference for sublingual is the rate at which it hits your bloodstream with sublingual being as it dissolves under your tongue. You can do that for these or go the oral route which seems to take around 30 mins.

I hear all of you. I was 5mg and 10mg but hated waking up like I'd been hit by a brick.

I told my doctor that I hate the drowsiness of melatonin and she recommended this exact brand and dosage. I was skeptical, but there's no point in having a doctor if you're just gonna assume you know better than them.

I bought it. Used it. Out like a rock and zero side effects in the morning. I've been taking this brand and dosage for months and it does the job everytime. It doesn't put me into that good "borderline coma" sleep, but it's just enough to ease me into being too tired to stay awake. Taken at the same time every night, the body gets into a rhythm and it just...works.

Highly recommended.

I used to take up to 20, 25. I take 1 mg every night now. not sure if it does anything but whatever.

Huh? The only reasons I've seen it banned for OTC is because of concerns regarding purity. It's almost always available by prescription. Never seen anything serious saying melatonin is unsafe.
