I've read this book twice, and I'm not exactly the book reading type. Absolutely changed my life a little over a year ago and got me on the path to eating almost entirely whole plant foods. If you're curious what kind of information is contained in the book, you can also watch Dr. Greger's youtube videos on his nutritionfacts channel. This book is all the science, and only the science...and I was amazed mostly at the fact that we actually know all the answers to most things about nutrition (and what we should/shouldn't eat to promote health and longevity). Despite all the confusion that gets thrown at the general population by the media, the food industry, and others with a financial motive to confuse the populace, just about every single thing about nutrition has been studied in detail, and we have pretty definitive answers for almost all of them...and they're covered in this book. I can't recommend it highly enough. This book isn't just restating things you already know in a different way. Your health is much more within your own control than most people think.

Also of note, 100% of the author's cut for all his books goes straight to charity; it's written in his publishing contract. I'm sure some will find bias in everything and everyone, but this is one of very few people without an obvious financial motive to say the things he's saying.

Assuming you can get one Smilie. Certainly good advice, but people die from cardiovascular disease and cancer orders of magnitude more often than they die from things you can vaccinate against in the modern world. So I wouldn't stop there.

Definitely not trying to be disagreeable, but one of the things he covers in their book is what nonsense portion control is. The human body is uncannily good at eating exactly the right number of calories to meet our needs from day to day and week to week...when it isn't being manipulated by modern "hyperpalatable" foods loaded with added salt, fats/oil, and sugar. When you eat the foods that we were intended to eat and have evolved eating for millions of years (plant foods as grown from the ground), you just eat as much as you want whenever you want and you will shed pounds until you're at/near an ideal weight. There are MANY studies cited in his books where participants are told to eat "ad libidem" (as much as they want), and as long as they're eating the right foods, they always lose a bunch of weight, and usually quickly.

Greger often misrepresents research in his push for a whole plant diet. While his general advice to eat more plant based meals is generally accepted, he overstates the harms of animal based products. As long as you go into the book understanding his ulterior motive, it's not bad.
