Experience greater power, range, and speed. With an internal and external lithium ion battery, ES4-800 has a top speed of nearly 15.5 mph and a range of up to 28 miles. The bar for high-performance e-scooters has been raised.

So the scooter worked out of the box before you replaced the dash with an aftermarket? Looks like you might've shorted something when replacing it. Looking at the thread you found, doesn't look like there's a solution, someone just points out possibly replacing the control board.
Yeah someone also suggested that Bird released an OTA update that sabotages both aftermarket and OEM dashes if you try to install them.

That was posted last year, many here, including myself had no issues installing another dash and updating it. You also had success with one scooter, so if there was an update that sabotaged our scooters, none of us would've had any success.

These scooters come in a range of different states from software to hardware. The fact there are different boards (Green and Purple), and some can connect to the app, while others cannot. I believe to rule out an OTA update would be unwise. It could be a small sub-set of these scooters have this 'kill-switch' engaged. So to think this is another attribute that some may possess isn't baseless. Just my thoughts. You could be totally right however, and I just F'ed up.

It's more likely the refurbishing company just cheaped out when they refurbed them, the purple boards are known to be the cheaper aftermarket boards that can be bought from sites like Aliexpress for ~$10. The only difference individuals have noticed is that some boards (I believe purple, not confirmed yet) were able to connect to BT out of the box and if you had the green board, you couldn't. Either way, you still had to buy another board to update the official FW because neither of the boards out of the box could do it, it just failed. I've been on this thread since the deal was posted and you're the first after replacing the dash who had your issue.

That is far too consistent with human behavior. Maybe I'm just having a hard time coming to terms with bricking this thing, OK Manlet! Wink

Also appreciate all you've done with this thread. You're the local celebrity round these parts!

Would highly recommend changing the rear tire to pneumatic. It's so good that I figured I would never want the original solid tire and its parts again. So end up trim down the original aluminum 'sleeves' to make it a perfect fit. The metal is pretty soft, not hard to trim down a bit.

Also added some slime to the tube so don't need to worry abt flat tire.

Walmart is selling the Bird One for $449 [walmart.com]

However, app only, no display and doesn't fold

Great idea on your mod. Pictures and links to the parts?
Possibly instructions?

Thanks!

Does anyone know the actual warranty on these, is it 90 days? Someone has one still boxed for sale but I might not be able to assemble it and test until early March
Thanks

Interesting. Someone on another board sent their scooter in for a warranty repair and the repair shop flashed new firmware:

https://www.scooterhacking.org/fo...1990#p1990

Got my bird back. Took about 3.5 weeks, including nearly a week just to get the rma number. No issues with the warranty, just took them a bit to process it and issue me the return label. They covered shipping both ways.

They clearly updated the software. Max speed is now 18-19 on the flats, regen braking is now very noticeable (almost enough to send me off balance) as it kicks in heavily as soon as throttle is disengaged, rear brake lights are no longer always on (they still turn on with the front headlight), and the ground lights are only blue (used to be rotating all colors). Pretty sure I have the green board (I haven't checked) as I can't change any settings in m365 tools though i can connect.

Unfortunately they removed it from the site, but they still have another Bird refurbished model and it states 90 days, should be the same for this one. What's the reason you can't test it until March?
