  • Summary: "I, Robot, the first and most widely read book in Asimov's Robot series, forever changed the world's perception of artificial intelligence. Here are stories of robots gone mad, of mind-reading robots, and robots with a sense of humor. Of robot politicians, and robots who secretly run the world—all told with the dramatic blend of science fact and science fiction that has become Asimov's trademark."

A science fiction classic. Everyone should read this.

This bears no resemblance whatsoever to the rather lame movie that stole it's name.
While I'll admit that the book is better as with most book adaptations.I disagree about the film being lame most people liked enjoyed the film.

I would have thought this would be free by now. Actually it is if you search for it but maybe breaking Copyright?

I have read quite a few of Asimov's stories and while he has a great imagination and his stories are excellent, his writing ability is a bit "high school".

As Professor said, this is nothing like the movie at all haha. Id recommend a lot of his books. The foundation series is also excellent. I personally found him to be the inspiration for a ton of sci fi content.

Almost all of his works are still under copyright, just a few are not.

A really incredible collection of ideas

No resemblance to the Scalzi crap that passes for SF in influencer oriented publishing

If you can I recommend The Complete Robot, which has all of these short stories plus a lot more.

I was partly pissed off by the fact it bore no resemblance to the book other than stealing the title and a few characters names. The movie was not an adaptation of the book in any way, really. They simply capitalized on Asimov's reputation to seel tickets to a completely different movie with a completely different story.

Movie wasn't that bad, I liked it. The portrayal of Susan Calvin was good. Watching the movie got me to read all the robot short stories, then the robot detective novels and finally the foundation series. Of all of them I like the robot short stories the best.

Yeah. Phillip K. Dick is the same way, only worse.

There is one chapter that was the inspiration for Sonny in the movie. And obviously the 3 laws concept and how they can be distorted are applied in both the book and the movie.

Agreed. The movie was very loosely inspired by the stories in I Robot, but it's not really even remotely an adaptation. How could you really adapt a series of short stories anyway... They would have been way better off doing caves of steel, you've got your trilogy all lined up before you start that way... Not sure why they didn't.
