Decent book for the price. Being a fan of Greg Bear and some of Neal's other works I thought this book seemed right up my alley.

Without any spoilers, got through Part 1 easily, forced myself through Part 2, and gave up on Part 3.

It was clear he got on to one of his usual rabbit holes on some topics that he was interested in and forgot how to wrap things up. I wish he split this into a 3 book trilogy instead of one giant book.

I felt opposite, it was probably my least favorite sci-fi book I read in 2017...

Why? Have you read any of his other stuff to compare to? I'm looking for a new SF author to start up on. Greg Bear is a favorite.

Read this book twice in the past year. Great hard sci-fi if that's what you're into. One of my favorites of all time.

He has a style of explaining how things work technologically and even psychologically- and then slipping back into the narrative and seeing how it plays out with the characters involved.

It's long but worth every moment IMO. Definitely a great buy at this price. I've recommended it to multiple friends and family who are into sci-fi.

I am a fan of the book but see it really as 3 linked novellas, each which features different plot focus and story-telling style and each which could be read on its owm

Part 1 is the most conventional and a nice easing in that builds to a specific end

Part 2 reminds me of Ciixin Liu's mind-blowing Three Body Problem
trilogy and focuses n social decisions and norms. It is the most harrowing portion of the book for me and, IMO, the most impressive section

Part 3 seems to have split a lot of readers as it jumps forward and depicts the results of decisions made in Parts 1 and 21.

For this slick price, I recommend it

2.99 is not $2. Please correct the title.

It's worth one read through but man, does this author love technical details - he'll wax poetic going on for pages and pages on solar winds, comet gases and propulsion systems.

FWIW, I've recently discovered and read some pretty entertaining sci-fi/action/adventure novels:

The Breach - Patrick Lee
The Fold - Peter Clines
Afterlife - Marcus Sakey
Dark Matter - Blake Crouch

It was building up so well in the first part... then WTH... to wut... then it's over, huh? Definitely started out interesting and ended in low note for me. Didn't like it.

Edit. Oh yeah, didn't even know how to pronoun the title until I read it in two words, lol

It's very similar to a Kim Stanley Robinson novel like Red Mars. Something more action based could be something like the Old Man War series or The Expanse.

He really likes air locks and docking, too.

Try Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky. It is the best one I have read since Three Body Problem.
