Pretty good book. Asimov is the king of sci-fi imo. This is part of his robots series, which is not quite as good as the foundation books, but still very enjoyable. It's fascinating to me how he was able to anticipate so long ago the moral and ethical quandaries we'd face when dealing with artificial life. We are only now, many years later beginning to realize the implications of these things with AI.

Really, really good book. If you like SciFi and/or mysteries, definitely worth a read.

I recommend reading "I, Robot" prior to this first Robot Novel. As a series of short stories loosely related, it acts as a good primer for the Three Laws of Robotics that is central to the Robot Novels. The Complete Robot has quite a bit more stories, but not all are needed to get a feel if you like Asimov or the robotics concepts.

I also have to plug Johnny Pez's Insanely Complete Fiction list hosted at my site (with permission) with accompanying reviews. I have personally read each book by Asimov and other authors twice, some of them three times in both publish order and chronological. I recommend chronological for new readers since in the end Asimov tied together both the Robot and Foundation series'.

My next run through will be via audiobook.

Caves of Steel is at the top of my favorites and Daneel Olivaw is by far my favorite character. Must read for anyone that considers themselves a sci-fi fan.

Great book. Not too long either (paperback novella length). Imo this particular novel was the precursor to Cyberpunk (predating Gibson and PKD).

Asimov was indisputably a brilliant man but as a fiction writer,simply overrated. The Foundation trilogy was an okay read. Subsequent books of the series were really boring with one dimensional stereotypical characters and rudimentary plot. "The End of Eternity" was perhaps the only exception.

I recommend against this book. Asimov can write amazing short stories, but I don't care as much for his novels, so I recommend:

Be careful because the one sold on Amazon seems to not be the short stories, but the novels.

Ultimately Asimov's robot novels are detective novels featuring robots. If you like detective novels and robots then be my guest. I personally liked the robots but disliked the primary detective story plot.

I love the Robot series, much better than foundation in my humble opinion. (Also there are many other robot books beyond these three for those interested) I just wish the other books were on sale as well.

Overall I liked this book and it came together really well. However for at least half of the book there are parts that *seem* out of place and meandering. Power through.
