I wish I had a place to plant one of these but I don't think I have space on my property.

For reference: https://www.provenwinners.com/pla...s-syriacus

Price looks great; $49.49 at the link above, google showed HD at ~$35 and Lowes at ~$33 when I searched. Having said that, this random website has quart sized at $16 if you order 3+ https://www.newgardenplants.com/b...n-hibiscus

Overall I would say this is a pretty good deal and I've had some OK luck with indoor plants off of Amazon before. Pass for me though since I can't think of a place to plant it

Pricing might be regional, but the price in Ohio is 15.00 with free delivery and over 4k units available.

This looks like a rose of Sharon, which is different than the typical orange/yellow/pink hibiscus. Be aware that these propagate like crazy - I have a couple and am constantly pulling out new seedlings (which can be tough if you overlook them too long!). It helps if you snip off the spent flowers before the seed pods form.

This is a sterile cultivar, (proven winners variety). However, you are correct the non sterile versions(older cultivars) can be a nightmare to remove!

The Chiffon series are "almost sterile". It's odd that Proven Winners doesn't market this characteristic given how rampant of a seeder Rose of Sharon can be.

I wonder what it is about the climate in southern California (coastal and inland) that these are not recommended? Certainly AZ (which is OK) is blistering hot and other places are freezing, but SoCal is pretty moderate.

Probably has to do with required minimum chill hours to set buds? I'm not home, or I would order for the patio.

You can pot these if you're inclined and want to look up best practices online. I've seen plenty of gorgeous potted specimens. 🪴🪴🪴

Thanks for the correction - that is definitely an asset then!
